Ruth W. Condict diary, 1815.

The collection consists of her diary from the year 1815 and the other containing a typed transcript of the diary. Entires include reflections on life and on local and national events, and illustrate the concerns of a young woman in early nineteenth century New Jersey. The last entry is dated September 26, 1815, and makes no allusions to ill health, although Ruth died less than one month later.

Ruth W. Condict, the daughter of Sarah Perine and the Reverend Ira Condict (1764-1811) of New Brunswick, New Jersey, was born in 1798. Her father was the vice president of Old Queens College at New Brunswick (now Rutgers University) and a trustee at his alma mater, the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University).
